Designing Collective Artist Residencies

چکیده
Starting with an argument for a humanistic approach to climate change, this paper discusses the concept of ‘Collective Artist Residency’ as practicable means engaging complex socio-ecological issues that require collective answers. Through our analysis research project ‘Imaginative Disruptions,’ we propose there is need creative spaces include artists and non-artists alike, which engender aimless play, inquisitive making dialogic contemplation in face are too painful, overwhelming rationally comprehend. We further argue such residencies can generate comfortable, even light-hearted, people be uncomfortable together. In other words, environments feel safe caring but also encourage us challenge status quos experiment alternatives via emotional, aesthetic, cognitive, somatic social processing. The closes five (suggested) guiding principles designing Collective Art Residency supports groups co-reflect upon their fragility whilst re-imagining present future possibilities being world: deeply participatory, balanced between comfortable / emotions, highly experiential, cross-sectoral intergenerational, place-based.

The artistic labor market is marked by several adversities, such as low wages, above-average unemployment, and constrained underemployment. Nevertheless, it attracts many young people. The number of students exceeds the available jobs by far. A potential explanation for this puzzle is that artistic work might result in exceptionally high job satisfaction, a conjecture that has been mentioned at...
متن کاملDesigning collective behavior in a termite-inspired robot construction team.
Complex systems are characterized by many independent components whose low-level actions produce collective high-level results. Predicting high-level results given low-level rules is a key open challenge; the inverse problem, finding low-level rules that give specific outcomes, is in general still less understood. We present a multi-agent construction system inspired by mound-building termites,...
متن کاملDesigning Representational Coherence into an Infrastructure for Collective Sensemaking
We discuss issues arising from the design, implementation and first use of a prototype infrastructure for distributed collective practice (IDCP), and reflect upon their intersection with some of the themes emerging from the Paris 2000 IDCP workshop. The problem of maintaining coherence in a distributed system is of central interest to us. We focus on the notion of representational coherence, an...
متن کاملDesigning Self-organising MAS Environments: The Collective Sort Case
Self-organisation is being recognised as an effective conceptual framework to deal with the complexity inherent to modern artificial systems. In this article, we explore the applicability of self-organisation principles to the development of multi-agent system (MAS) environments. First, we discuss a methodological approach for the engineering of complex systems, which features emergent properti...
